Rate of Force Development (RFD)
The first two weeks of July marked the beginning of a structured foundation-building phase for our youth athletes at Advance Sports Academy. Training was strategically designed to reinforce movement efficiency, neuromuscular coordination, and sport-specific athleticism — all under a performance coaching model.
We launched the month with focused SAQ training, targeting the three pillars of field-based performance:
• Speed: Emphasizing linear sprint mechanics, first-step acceleration, and posture efficiency.
• Agility: Training change of direction (COD) mechanics with and without anticipation — targeting reactivity and control.
• Quickness: Developing rapid response time through sensory drills, optimizing reaction-based movement under game-like scenarios.
Athletes showed strong progression in movement literacy, body control, and responsiveness. There was a clear improvement in how they approached drills, indicating not only physical adaptation but also higher movement awareness.
We progressed into Plyometric Training, a phase focused on enhancing explosive strength and rate of force development (RFD).
Key components included:
• Reactive jumps (vertical and horizontal)
• Low ground-contact plyos
• Multi-directional bounding
• Emphasis on technique, stiffness, and deceleration control
This was a demanding week — physically and neurologically. Athletes were pushed to recruit maximum force in minimal time, challenging both their muscular systems and mental drive. Despite visible fatigue, every athlete demonstrated resilience and a growth-oriented mindset — qualities that are critical for long-term athletic success.
✳️ Summary:
These first two weeks set the foundation not just for better physical performance, but for a stronger athletic mindset. ASA remains committed to an evidence-based, athlete-centered model that prepares our young athletes for the next level — both on and off the field
